6 Reasons Not to Use Marriage Counseling to Save Your Marriage

When your marriage is in trouble and you need to save it, one of the first things you might consider is marriage counseling.  However, this may not be the best option for you or your marriage.  Here are 6 reasons not to use marriage counseling to save your marriage.  You should consider these things before you make your decision.

  1. Affordability- Marriage counseling doesn’t come cheap.  While it depends on the counselor you choose, you could pay hundreds of dollars each session.  Most of the time you have to have several sessions before you see any progress.  This can really add up over time.  Most couples just can’t afford this option.

  1. Counselor inexperience- Some marriage counselors don’t even have to take classes that teach them how to deal with marital problems.  This means that you could be getting advice from someone who has little to no experience.  When you’re trying to save your marriage, you don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars to someone that doesn’t really know what they’re doing.

  1. Time restraints- Most counseling sessions are about an hour long.  If you’re arguing over a particular issue when you’re time is up, you just have to wait until your next session to continue it.  This really isn’t the best way to solve problems.  You need to have plenty of time to be able to work through your problems properly.

  1. Privacy- This can be an issue for several couples.  Sometimes you have sensitive subjects to discuss that you don’t want anyone else to hear.  It’s hard to be completely honest with your spouse when someone else is listening to your every word.  If you can’t truly open up to your spouse, you won’t ever be able to save your marriage.

  1. Slow results- There are couples who have been seeing a marriage counselor for years now.  Since you pay by the hour, there’s no real rush to get your problems solved in a short amount of time.  After all, it’s not the counselor’s marriage that needs to be saved.  You and your spouse are the only ones who truly care about saving your marriage as quickly as possible.  This is why it’s sometimes best to find a solution you can do on your own.

  1. Poor success rate- While some couples see great success from marriage counseling, many more have had very little success.  In fact, there are times when marriage counseling has actually magnified the couple’s problems and made the situation worse.  If you don’t find the right counselor, they may even encourage you to end the marriage.  If you’re marriage is already in trouble, this can send it over the edge.

These are the 6 reasons you may not want to use marriage counseling.  A better option is to find a quality marriage course you can use.  Online marriage courses have helped tons of couples save their marriages.  They’re affordable, effective, and guarantee their results.  That’s not something you can say about marriage counseling.
