Convincing a Spouse to Save a Marriage

There might be a time in your life when you need to convince a spouse to save a marriage.  It’s never easy when you know that you need help, but your spouse doesn’t see it the same way.  There are some things you can do to make convincing them a little easier.  So here’s what you need to do to convince your spouse that your marriage needs to be saved.

  • Let them know your feelings.  Sometimes the easiest way to convince a spouse to save a marriage is to tell them how you feel.  You can let them know that you really want to make your marriage work, and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to do that.  Make sure that they know you still love them and you care about them deeply.  Usually this is all your spouse needs to hear to convince them to save your marriage.

  • Don’t place all of the blame on them.  Convincing a spouse to save a marriage doesn’t happen by blaming them for all of your problems.  You’re going to have to take responsibility for any mistakes you’ve made as well.  You can let them know that you’re unhappy with certain things in your marriage without making it seem like they’re doing everything wrong.  If they feel like you’re attacking them, they won’t feel compelled to work with you on saving the marriage.

  • Give them some space.  Your spouse may need a little space to decide if they want to move forward and work on repairing your marriage.  The best thing you can do for them is to back off and let them have this time.  Putting pressure on them to make a decision is not the best way of convincing a spouse to save a marriage.  If you’re respectful of their wishes, this will let them know that you really do care about them, and you want what’s best for your marriage.

  • See if they’re willing to get help.  You may need a little help to convince your spouse to save your marriage.  This help can come from the encouragement of close family and friends.  You could try to get professional help from a marriage counselor.  Or you could find a quality marriage course that the two of you could work on together.  Sometimes hearing an outside party say that there’s hope for you marriage is enough to convince your spouse to work on saving it.

Convincing a spouse to save a marriage is hopefully something you’ll never have to do.  However, if you do, you can follow the tips above to make it easier.  Let your spouse know how you feel, give them their space, take responsibility for your mistakes, and try to get some help.  Hopefully one of these tips will be all it takes to convince your spouse to save your marriage.
